Ever since I first saw Blake's 7 (and if you have read some of the other pages you'll know my age was barely in double figures!), I was fascinated by Travis. A good villain in any programme always attracts our interest (well, mine at least), and while at that time I watched B7 with more of an older child's perspective, certainly not an adult one, the character of Travis is one of the handful that remained strongly in my memory in the wilderness years of no repeats or videos. Now I have the luxury of the new video releases, and can rewatch the series from the beginning with an adult eye and interest. I'll confess upfront - I always preferred the first Travis, played by Stephen Greif, to the second (Brian Croucher). It's hard to explain precisely why; firstly I think that I always tend to prefer the original incarnation of any character. When the original Master in Doctor Who (Roger Delgado) died, he was of course replaced, yet if asked I would always state a preference for the first one. Our perceptions of a character are based upon the original; when any character is changed by being played by a different actor, we often have trouble accepting the replacement. Maybe it's an uncanny coincidence - I certainly prefer Stephen Greif as an actor to Brian Croucher (no offence Brian!), possibly the same was true for the Master. Another distinct possibility is that overall my loyalties and preferences lie with the first series of B7, if I was asked to pick one series (although my favourite series again is often the first in any show e.g. Babylon 5 and Red Dwarf). I'm also not terribly fond of the way that Travis developed after the end of series one. His descent into relative insanity, though, was quite plausible given the circumstances. It's just one of my quirks in the end! Carry on now to the main Travis page, where you can find my take on his background, character, and motivations, and some questions which we could speculate about endlessly! There are also episodic summaries, quotes, and a gallery of images. As this site is also a fan tribute to Stephen Greif, there is a separate page dedicated to him.
