Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan (above and below)
|
Sean stars as Alec Trevelyan, initially 006, in Goldeneye, the seventeenth James Bond movie. Pierce Brosnan plays Bond, who at the start of the film is on a mission with Trevelyan. The mission goes awry, and Bond escapes, believing Trevelyan to be dead.
Trevelyan is far from dead, and is heading up a criminal organisation intent on using a Russian satellite, the Goldeneye of the title, for their own nefarious ends. Bond pursues Trevelyan across Russia and eventually to his island base, where there is a huge antenna array hidden beneath a mountain lake (remininscent of an earlier Bond movie, You Only Live Twice).
Bond and Trevelyan fight to the death on the metal gantries of the array, ending with Trevelyan falling to his death, ands being crushed by wreckage as the antenna is destroyed.
When we first see Trevelyan, he looks as clean-cut as Bond, yet when we renew our acquaintance later in the film, he has some scarring on the right hand (his right) side of his face. It seems to be a very obvious, visual way of declaring that this is no longer a "good guy". One also suspects that the bad guy in the film is not allowed to be more handsome than Bond ;-) Sean plays Trevelyan with a very clipped English accent, without a trace of his native Yorkshire.
