Sean had a cameo role in the "Vicar of Dibley" episode "Spring". Geraldine (the vicar, played by Dawn French) is set to marry local councillor and bigwig David Horton. She dreams about the forthcoming wedding, and as she is standing at the altar about to say "I do", Sean appears at the back of the church and calls to her, "No! Don't do it Geraldine! It's me you love, not him". Geraldine turns in amazement, and Sean says "C'mon lass". They run towards each other, Geraldine saying "Save me Sean!". The picture fades out as Geraldine wakes up and realises she can't marry David. |
Sean's cameo is the culmination of a running gag throughout the four episodes ("Autumn", "Winter", "Spring" and "Summer"). Geraldine has always had a picture of an actor next to her portrait of Jesus on the wall. In previous series pictures included Mel Gibson and Robson Greene. Every so often Geraldine will make reference to Sean's picture on the wall, and Sean in general. These four episodes are well worth seeing for the "Sean moments" if nothing else! The Vicar of Dibley is an hilarious comedy about a female vicar who replaces the previous deceased vicar in a small Oxfordshire village, to the initial consternation of the Parish Council. Dawn French, of French and Saunders fame, stars as the vicar, with an excellent supporting cast including Roger Lloyd Pack.
